Vanity

THIS IS NOT THE GOLDEN AGE
The current issue of Vanity Fair has a feature where current Hollywood actors dress up as characters in Hitchcock movies. Someone had the bright idea of having Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey play Grace Kelly and Cary Grant in "To Catch a Thief." Uh, no.

Didn't watch the Oscars last night in fact didn't even remember the awards were on, actually forgot they were!
Instead watched incredible movie about Detroit which I was wondering if you've seen-- FOUR BROTHERS, and twice. I had tears in my eyes a bit here in there 'cos its about these adopted delinquents two white guys and two black who loose their community activist mother to gun violence which turns out to be a murder arranged by the corrupt cops and the a black gang.
A remake of the Sons of Katie Elder a John Wayne western that I saw as a kid in the Drive-in, which is really interesting to figure out the parallels as you're watching the update- remake.

Yes, I fully agree, an awesome movie. Great acting all the way around-- really captures the mood of this town.
Meaningful, soulful movies ARE being still made in this country-- often too much ignored by the critical establishment.
